Another milestone has been reached with the first newsletter mailing since August of last year. It did not come without a lot of work from Ned, Ann Turner, Bob Bowman and several other volunteers. To those folks I say thank you.

We had some bumps along the way and we know we need to get it to the mailing house sooner than we did but since this is our first attempt I feel we did a good job and that it will be worth the effort.

I had someone tell me that they thought mailing the newsletter was a waste of time and money since most of the newsletters that are available at the meetings do not get taken home. Well I thought for a moment and asked what percent of the members attended the meetings and it turned out to be 20% which is some where near average. I figured those people read it online and did not need a copy but the 80% who did not attend meetings did not have clue what’s going on as they never see a newsletter.

If you received one and do not want to receive a copy by mail, or did not get one and you want one, get with your membership director and they will provide the info to us for correction. We are working out the process of having extra copies mailed in bulk to the DCs for meetings. But this should be resolved by the next issue.

The cost of mailing and processing is a large expense that must be addressed going forward. Advertising from your local shops, restaurants etc. can help defray the cost and keep us on track for continued mailings. Our rates are reasonable and given the high number of hits we get online the readership may be higher than our membership. 2 business card ads, a quarter page ad and 1 half page ad per district each month would more than cover the cost and allow for extra issues for distribution to the advertisers. Don’t forget our sponsor and supporter listings. This is a cost effective way for your favorite places to reach all of our members.

I am hoping to add some fresh ideas to the newsletter such as a column called Ask an Attorney, a member written column and revitalizing the Buy, Sell or Trade section where you can list for free your items that you have for sale that are motorcycle related. I would like to see more photos from your events and a small write up to go with them. Any one interested in writing a story about your favorite ride that you have done here in Georgia? Come on be a contributor. It takes everyone to make this a success.

When you are done reading your newsletter don’t throw it away but rather give it to a friend that is not an ABATE member. It may be just the thing to get them as a member.

Thanks for all you do to support ABATE of Georgia.

Dan Forrest
